He suggests that his book 'equips you with the knowledge and the tools to help avoid interview mistakes, be ready for the only interview question you must prepare to answer, ask the right questions in return, and negotiate the salary you deserve.' Chapters range from Preparation: An Oxygen Tank for the Job Interviewee to The Ideal Interview (the one that got you the job!) In between, they address topics like The Only Question You Must Be Able to Answer (tell me about yourself by 'talking to your resume'); (Don't) Tell Me About Your Weaknesses; and The New Interview, Courtesy of Google and Others (how to handle out of the box questions, including Google's own advice to interviewees). The Design Your Research Manual chapter includes useful online resources relating to different industries. Master the Informational Interview gives specific advice on how to go about networking and to follow up on it. Where Does the Law Draw the Line? talks about illegal interview questions and how to respond to them. Trick Questions lists many possible ones and what might be behind them (avoid negatives in your answers). Turn the Tables lists and explains the questions you should pose to different interviewers when it's your turn. I picked up this book for review because I have two sons entering the job market before too long. But, having been both interviewer and interviewee during my career, I was also interested in what has changed since I sat on either side of the table. I liked the book. Paul Freiberger covers the ground well and clearly with plenty of specific relevant examples and up-to-date advice. If you're in the job market, When Can You Start? just might help you find the position you are seeking.
