Annajane Hudgens figures it'll be a cakewalk attending her ex's wedding - she's totally over Mason Bayliss, isn't she? Her best friend in the world, Pauline 'Pokey' Bayless, who also happens to be Mason's baby sister, isn't so sure about Annajane's so called detachment, however. And what Pokey wouldn't give to see her brother's conniving fiancée, Celia Wakefield, taken down a notch or ten; better yet, sent packing back to the big city.

As fate would have it, the wedding comes to a sudden halt when Mason's daughter falls ill. Annajane adores her stepdaughter Sophie and is constantly at her bedside along with Mason. Her visits temporarily delay Annajane's plans to leave town and re-marry, but that's okay. Right now, Sophie comes first. Naturally it doesn't take long for Sophie and co-conspirator Aunt Pokey to set the sparks to rekindling Annajane and Mason's romance. But small towns always have a few deep dark secrets and sometimes dredging up the past opens a completely new can of worms.

Andrews brings the flavour of small town North Carolina to life in Spring Fever. Vivid narrative, a host of appealing (and sometimes quirky) characters, especially the interfering Pokey, and plenty of flashbacks showing how Annajane and Mason fell in and then out of love, make this story shine. The couple's second chance to find happiness has plenty of twists, turns and heartbreak, and will keep you reading at a fever pitch.

Mary Kay Andrews has definitely found a place on my Must Read list.
