Los Angeles Police Department Detective Tanner Davis had returned home to Refuge, Nevada, to settle his deceased uncle's affairs. But the perceptive lawman is also puzzled by his relative's death and decides to do a little nosing around to see if old age was the correct cause of death.

Davis discovers that his uncle reversed an agreement to give all his land to a national ranch conservancy group just before he died. This piece of information brings him into contact with Shaye Townsend, the agent who brokered the deal before it fell through. Shaye would like to see the ranchland preserved, while Davis is more interested in determining what really happened to his uncle.

Although the two are on different pages and don't see eye to eye on much, they do reluctantly become drawn together by the fate of the ranch and its former owner's inexplicable demise.

Since this is a romantic suspense story, the scenario Elizabeth Lowell creates will, ultimately, not only get these two individuals on the same page but also into the same bed. Of course, when the person or persons responsible for Tanner Davis' death set their sights on Shaye, her gentleman friend will be more than willing to put his considerable policing skills to good use.

Elisabeth Lowell has become one of the stalwarts in the romantic suspense field and her novels more often than not land on the New York Times bestseller list. Dangerous Refuge will certainly move up that illustrious list very quickly.
