Kate Watterson's Frozen introduces Milwaukee Homicide Detective Ellie MacIntosh on the trail of a serial killer, a predator who knows his territory and uses it well - three women have gone missing in eighteen months.

It's late October and Bryce Grantham is taking a break from his work in computer software after attending a technology seminar. He's heading for his parents' cabin on Loon Lake. Stopping to eat, he meets a young woman, an ornithologist, and ends up driving her home.

The next morning, he drives back to return her cell phone (left in his car), only to find her missing, a bloody shoe on the ground. He calls the police and of course becomes a suspect, despite Ellie's growing attraction to him - she begins to doubt her own judgment.

It all goes from bad to worse when, on a fishing expedition, Brcye finds the corpse of another victim. Soon, not only the police, but also the killer, are taking an interest in Bryce. As matters escalate, both Bryce and Ellie are drawn into extreme danger.

Frozen is a well executed police procedural with tension, action and romance - I look forward to more in the next Ellie MacIntosh mystery, Charred.
