Short contemporary romance is alive, well, and thriving - just ask Harlequin. To begin the new year, the publisher is rolling out another new series of short romantic fiction that they're calling fun, flirty and sensual.

The One That Got Away by Kelly Hunter is the line's debut title and features heroine Evie Jones, who's agreed to a marriage of convenience with her business partner and close friend, Max Carmichael. Equal partners in an architectural firm, they're on the hunt for their first big project, one that will finally put their company in the spotlight. But the venture will cost millions that they just don't have - unless Max marries to gain access to his trust fund.

Unfortunately, their easy solution quickly turns complicated when Evie learns the identity of Max's half brother. Logan Black was the man who destroyed Evie's heart more than a decade ago. Young and na´ve, she'd fallen hard for a man with far too much personal baggage to ever commit to any relationship. But the heat between them is still scorching. Evie knows she should run from this doomed arrangement, but Logan has other ideas and isn't ready to give up Evie again.

This is indeed a fast and flirty read with a storyline that isn't new but one that Hunter injects with plenty of spice as well as smart and saucy characterizations - even though both leads' issues are rather dark and involved for the condensed storyline.
