T
riss Stein, author of two earlier mysteries, has written another very good read in
Brooklyn Bones
. Erica Donato is a young widow working on her Ph.D. research while holding down a part-time job at a museum. If that weren't enough, she is also a single mom raising her teenage daughter Chris.
W
hile helping contractors renovate their home (good work to keep Chris out of trouble over summer vacation), said daughter finds the mummified remains of a young girl behind a wall! Here's where the mystery begins. And it's a good one. Who is this girl? When was she placed where she has been found? How old was she when she died? Does the jewelry found with her have any significance? Why did she die? How did she die?
A
s Erica and her daughter get further into their speculations about this dead body, things tense up and Erica feels threatened. Are she and Chris in danger? Could be! Very clever read.
