Psychologist Erin Sims' focuses on helping victims of violent crime. She's their relentless champion but her strongest goal remains to free her brother. He's been on death row for the past decade for a crime he didn't commit.

Erin knows it's a set-up, that the victim's congressman father had somehow tainted or manipulated the evidence. But after ten years no wants to listen to her any more, despite the concrete lead she's recently uncovered.

Sheriff Nick Mann doesn't like nosy intruders coming into his small Ohio town and riling up his friends, particularly when one of them is being accused of murder. However, when Erin shows him evidence that he cannot ignore, Nick begins digging deeper. Has he been harbouring a serial killer, as Erin maintains, or is she as deluded as the FBI claims? Once he begins unravelling his town's darker secrets it soon becomes clear that Erin's quest is not in vain - and that her determination to free her brother has now put her directly into the killer's cross hairs.

As in past novels, the author again shows great skill in fleshing out her damaged male lead (Nick Mann) to the point where his issues almost overshadow feisty Erin's. Still, both are very dynamic characters: Nick is hard-wired as the uber protector while Erin is relentless in her belief in her brother's innocence. Their romance amidst the building chaos is also nicely done. Even Nick's shadowy brother, who slides into the book part way through, makes an impression - and will star in his own story later on this year.

Brady also creates another creepy villain, digging deep into his mind to the point where you almost sympathise with his off kilter motivations. A twisty plot and a handful of red herrings add to the superb blend. Where Angels Rest is another edge-of-your seat thriller, proving that Kate Brady is fast making a name for herself as a master of romantic suspense.
