On their way to Chicago, Temple Barr and her fiancé (media star Matt Devine) almost lose their cat Midnight Louie to a thief at the airport. But it ends well and they continue on to meet Matt's extended family.

Temple, a PR genius, manages to blend right in. But then Midnight Louie is kidnapped, leaving Temple frantic. However, as series fans know well, Midnight Louie has an uncanny knack for getting himself out of difficult situations - he outsmarts the kidnappers and escapes. Temple and Matt are happy to have him back, but secrets have been let out and they now need to return to Las Vegas.

Las Vegas is where Matt's loser of a stepdad was murdered. Now it appears that there might be a connection between his death and a series of seemingly random murders. Temple and Matt begin to nose around, with the aid of Midnight Louie and Temple's ex boyfriend Max Kinsella. They discover that someone out there is trying to destroy any happiness they might find in the near future. Even Midnight Louie might not be able to stop this and help the humans he loves.

Though it's the 24th in the series, this was my first Midnight Louie book. It intrigued me, made me laugh and kept me reading. The mystery was complicated but gripping, Midnight Louie has a sass that I know is common to all felines. The main reason I enjoyed Cat in a White Tie and Tails though, is not because it was well written but because it was totally unique. Well worth losing a bit of sleep for.
