Former lovers Jake Sommers and Michelle Carter thought they'd moved on, gotten over each other, but four years apart haven't dulled their attraction.

Jake is determined to win Michelle over despite the overwhelming guilt he still feels for walking out of her life. He also feels responsible for the death of her husband, a fellow SEAL and Jake's best friend. He wants to make things right on both counts, start over again if Michelle will listen and give him another chance. But with Michelle, and the entire Black Knights, Inc. organization landing on the top of a ruthless and revenge-motivated mobster's hit list, Jake's plans take an entirely different turn.

Michelle had hoped never to see Jake again, not after the way he'd stomped on her heart and abandoned their love. But she knows how determined the man is, that once Jake sets his mind on a mission, he doesn't back down. The situation only gets more complicated once he's assigned as her bodyguard. Will Michelle be able keep their relationship at arm's length amidst the increasing chaos, which includes a secret she's terrified Jake will unravel?

Walker returns with the third instalment in her Black Knights Inc. series, one that fans are gobbling up, but unfortunately a story that I found rather predictable in character and storyline. Jake was hard to warm up to; he doesn't come across as a man ready to turn his 'surfer dude' life around. As for Michelle, she milked her big (and equally predictable) secret way too long given her 'forgiving nature'.

Despite this story's overall ho-hum flavour, Walker does a nice job setting things up for the next instalment that will feature two other Black Knights team members, Rock and Vanessa.
