In this sixth installment of the Wine Country Mystery series, Virginia winery owner Lucie Montgomery heads to California to check out some Cabernet Sauvignon and do a little sleuthing on the side.

Lucy will fly to the West Coast with her grandfather who is giving a presentation to a Bohemian Grove gathering north of San Francisco while she is sightseeing and checking out the wine.

While on the short visit Lucy will try to learn more about the Mandrake Society, a secretive group of scientists who were involved in biological research many years ago that apparently went wrong. One by one, the remaining members of the group have died in odd ways and an acquaintance of Lucy's grandfather has asked her to do a little research and learn what she can about one of the surviving members of the group.

When she learns far more than this person intended, Lucy places herself and members of her immediate family in harm's way. The plot has some interesting twists and an ending that not even the most sophisticated mystery fan will see coming.

While in California, Lucy also rekindles her on-again-off-again relationship with Quinn Santori, her winemaker and former lover. Quinn has returned to his home state to deal with a family situation, but he's more than happy to act as a tour guide and show his boss around San Francisco and the Napa Valley.

With an absorbing plot, likeable characters and plenty of local color, this is a novel that should be savored slowly. Uncork your favorite vintage, settle into a comfy chair and enjoy this adventure set in California's wine country.
