Darkness Falls, Cate Tiernan's follow-up to Immortal Beloved, is not as action-packed as the first book, but in many ways it is deeper and darker.

Nastasya Crowe is getting used to life at River's Edge, the immortal halfway house where residents learn how to shed their dark magic ways and turn to light magic. However, no matter how much she tries, she cannot help but feel that the darkness of being the last of the House of Ulfur is dragging her down. Despite her horrid visions about him, Nastasya runs away with her former best friend, Incy, when he comes to collect her ... but little does she know that while she was learning to turn towards the light, Incy was delving deeper into darkness.

Darkness Falls is all about Nastasya coming to terms with her past. Because of this, it is a little headier and slower than Immortal Beloved, but that does not mean it is not an important book in the trilogy. This character-driven installment is obviously clearing the way for whatever Cate Tiernan has planned for Nastasya in the final book, Eternally Yours.
