Tim Palmer's interpretive approach covers the geology, plant and wildlife, hydraulic processes and other natural phenomena along more than 150 of the state's rivers. Beside the very informative text you'll find 13 maps, 51 line drawings of flora and fauna, and 142 color illustrations. There are special icons that call attention to the best fishing, hiking and water activities and detailed instructions on how to get there. The book's general introduction looks at the natural history, the network of interconnected waterways and the issues around protecting and restoring river habitats, plus there is information on the common species of river plants and animals. The main part of the guide looks at the rivers you might wish to explore in each section of California. These chapters are divided into the North Coast, Sacramento Basin, San Joaquin Basin, Central and South Coast, Eastern Sierra Nevada and the Deserts. An excellent little guide, this is one book you won’t want to leave home without if you plan on river rafting, hiking or a fishing trip.
