orried about her grandmother, who shows signs of paranoia, Kali decides she needs to know more about Lillian's background. She learns that Lillian had lived in Berlin, Germany in the 1930s and had appeared in several movies.

illian is afraid that someone in her past is looking for her and will kill her when found. While her grandmother appeared to be a cold and uncaring woman during Kali's childhood years, Kali still loves her and fears for her sanity.
A
small painting becomes a character in this intriguing novel as do fear and nightmares. A deep secret kept for many years – since World War II – is at the core of the story but the secret is not revealed until it should be, building suspense to its highest peak.
