ill Trent's atrocious childhood has frequently been mentioned in the earlier books of the Will Trent series, but little detail has been given. Now his father James Ulster, a convicted murderer, has been paroled from prison and Trent's reaction seems to be excessive considering he never knew the man.

manda Wagner, Will Trent's supervisor at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, has been a part of Trent's life since he was born, although he never realized it. He became aware of her presence when she drafted him for the GBI while he was still in college. Amanda is notified of Ulster's parole, but she doesn't share the information with Will.
I
n 1975 Amanda was just getting her start in law enforcement. She was not the confident women she is today and at that time the police department had been forced to hire women officers and '
the boy's club
' had no intention of making their jobs easy. Male officers were always condescending and often brutal.
S
laughter jumps from 1975 to present day, narrating two cases, both involving James Ulster. Long ago Amanda and Evelyn Mitchell risked their careers and possibly their lives to solve a case that involved missing prostitutes. Amanda's present investigation involves a missing college student.
I
hope we'll see future books that include Amanda's past. She and her long-time law enforcement friends still watch each other's backs.
