Dead Ringer by Allen Wyler is a thriller that will have you gasping for breath. Absolutely ghoulish in concept but a very good rendering of a part of life we would rather not think about.

Bobby Ditto, skanky funeral director, has come up with a sure-fire scheme of a money maker. Selling body parts. From cadavers! Illegal at best. When he starts plucking live victims off the streets, he says he is doing the world a favor getting rid of objectionables!

Dr. Lucas McCrae, conducting a demonstration in Hong Kong of a new technique in brain surgery, whisks a cloth off a cadaver's head only to find the head had belonged to his life-long best friend!! How? Why? Is it really his friend Andy Baer?

While Lucas investigates his friend's disappearance, his marriage is falling apart. Or has it already fallen?

Author Allen Wyler is a renowned neurosurgeon. This is his third medical thriller, the previous ones being Deadly Errors and Dead Head.

The story has a clever plot with much to ponder. I could have wished the characters' personalities had had a bit more polishing. Still a stunner of an idea. And a good read.
