harles Bouchon, called '
Shake
', was a getaway driver in his earlier life. He has now realized his dream of owning a restaurant in Belize. He's left his previous life with relief but has now gotten himself in deep with loan shark Baby Jesus, who has absolutely no sense of humor or patience.
A
fter catching up on Shake's situation, we meet the elderly Quinn whom Shake saves from a drubbing. Then his restaurant goes up in flames, he is conned into dangerous illegal activity, an ex girlfriend reappears, and Shake is sent on the run for his life.
A
uthor Lou Berney has another novel,
Gutshot Straight
, to his credit as well as many short stories, screenplays, and TV pilots. A busy man, indeed. And it's lucky for us that he is. Let's hope he carries Shake to his next novel.
Whiplash River
is a good read.
