I
t's summertime and many of us would like to be at least a little
slimmer
. Now Harry Papas brings us his internationally bestselling diet book,
Slimmer: The New Mediterranean Way to Lose Weight
that addresses lifestyle and psychological triggers for poor eating choices, and includes meal-plans and over eighty Mediterranean recipes.
T
he author (a registered dietician) speaks from hard experience, having gained 110 pounds in one year and then lost it all and kept it off. His book is in three parts - a discussion of the Mediterranean diet and lifestyle; presentation of the Slimmer Program, meal plans and recipes, divided into three cycles of twenty-one days each; and psychological aspects.
H
e cites the 1960s Seven Countries Study that showed '
how healthy the traditional Mediterranean diet and lifestyle can be
', and discusses what it involves, from ingredients (including Greek yogurt) to lifestyle choices like
slower living
and
quality connections
.
A
s in many other diet books, much of the advice reflects strong common sense. What I most liked in this one is the number and variety of mouthwatering recipes, from
Salmon Salad with Honey and Balsamic Dressing
and
Pasta Salad Primavera
to
Easy Seafood Risotto
,
Grilled Chicken Pizza
and
Orange Banana Chocolate Crisp
.
I
f you're planning on a slimmer - and healthier - summer, Harry Papas'
Slimmer
is a good place to start. Personally, I plan to start putting his recipes on my family table - they look yummy.
