ina is on the run with her ten-year-old son Luke. She was in Witness Protection after testifying against her abusive husband, Joe Cicala. Now he's in jail and his father's assassins are on her trail, intent on killing Gina and retrieving the crime boss's grandson.

fter discovering that Frank terHorst, the U.S. Marshall assigned to protect them, is on her father-in-law's payroll, Gina goes off the grid, unaware that he placed a tracker on her car. TerHorst vacillates between doing what he has agreed to, that is giving up Gina's location, and killing her himself - he knows that she's travelling with a fortune in stolen diamonds. As Gina runs with Luke, their violent pursuers leave a gory trail of bodies in their wake.

n Los Angeles, Gina and Luke meet Gray and his older friend Norman. Gray claims to be a sailor, but clearly has secrets. Though Gina wants to keep on the move, Luke forms an attachment to Gray. Fortunately, he proves capable of dealing with the killers on their trail. The villains fight amonst themselves, while terHorst has a heart attack and plans to sell Luke to pedophiles. Gina and Luke escape by the skin of their teeth again and again. Finally they take refuge in Norman's mansion in the desert.

ailor
is a gripping read, fast-paced, action-packed and often gruesome. The mystery of Gray's unusual back story - as well as the good guys' attempts to elude the assassins on their trail - holds readers' interest throughout. And everyone, Gina included, gets what they deserve.
