Meredith Pincetti has been living in New York City for the last seventeen years, after running away from her family's past. Being the youngest grandchild on the farm still haunts her to this day. But the past has now caught up with her, in the form of a lawyer's letter saying that the farm is about to be auctioned to pay off heavy debts. Since none of her sisters is willing to take on the task, Meredith feels obliged to confront her past and the history of the Hathaways.

For many generations the Hathaways were a big name in Iowa, owning a three thousand acre farm, filled with golden corn fields. They called the farm Aurelia. The one person who had the ambition and strength to elevate their name was Meredith's grandmother, Lavinia Hathaway. Lavinia always had her own agenda, and it did not matter if it destroyed a family member, as long as the name remained in high standing. It was this obsession that led to the downfall of the Hathaway family.

What a well written novel, which catches reader interest right off the bat. Nelle Davy's writing makes clear how far some individuals will go to get everything they want, and that certain paths can be damaging.
