Dalton Fury, a former Delta Force commander and author of Kill Bin Laden, now brings us this jet-paced first in new series, Black Site: A Delta Force Novel, starring impetuous impetuous ex-Delta Force operator Kolt 'Racer' Raynor.

As Black Site opens, Racer is down and out, drinking himself into oblivion. His back story is gradually revealed - one in which his not following orders on a Delta Force mission in the Pakistan mountains resulted in the death of not only his own teammates, but also of another group sent to the rescue, including his best friend.

Having long believed that the second team were all dead, Racer is shocked to learn that most are alive, and have been frequently moved around and used as human shields. He begs for the chance to help them and is offered an opportunity for redemption. He goes on this suicide mission almost alone (helped only by an ex-CIA operative and a young local), and makes contact with the prisoners.

But they are moved before anything can be done. Of course, Racer once again goes beyond his orders, to seek out information on their location - and finds something much bigger. He uncovers an al Qaeda plot to attack an American Black Site (a secret US prison in Pakistan) and to create a credible video that would turn US citizens against military involvement in the area. It involves an American al Qaeda operative, who survives to participate in future episodes.

It's a thrilling ride for Racer and readers - one that not only puts you on the edge of your seat, but often topples you off it entirely! I listened to the unabridged audiobook version (10 CDs, 13 hours), masterfully read by Ari Fliakos (who makes you feel that you are right in the action) and including a bonus interview with the author. Though this is not the sort of story I normally seek out, I was enthralled and look forward to Racer's next mission in Tier One Wild.
