There is no question that the bond between humans and their horses is a strong one. So, when Bradford Wheler invited professional and amateur artists to submit their art to be considered for publication in this book the response was overwhelming.

Sixty-one works were selected from artists from the U.S., Canada, Australia, Germany, Switzerland, Great Britain, South Africa and Finland for this collection that features a variety of art styles, including photography, illustrations and paintings.

Each work is accompanied by a quote from a famous writer or historical figure. The dual goals of the editor are to honor and highlight the horse through text and artwork plus showcase the talents of new and emerging artists who focus on creating equine art.

Arranged in chapters that are entitled Humor, The Starting Gate, Horse Sense, Ancient Wisdom and Training & Handling, these evocative pictures and quotes depict the power and majesty of the horse along with man's ageless fascination for all things equine.

Since little will be known about most of the art work, Wheler includes a section at the back of the book that offers a paragraph about each photographer or artist. In some cases a website is also included so you can see other work by the individual.

One of the most unique sections of this collection is the short chapter that features the art of Cholla. You'll find a sample of the artist's work and two pictures of him standing at his easel working on a painting. Normally, there are no pictures of the featured artists themselves, but Cholla Chambers is a tad unusual. He's a horse!

A winner of two honorable mention awards at art shows, Cholla had his own solo show in Venice, Italy, in 2009. His art has been displayed in galleries in San Francisco, New York City, Reno and Las Vegas.

Holding the brush with his teeth, the equine artist has been lauded as one who exhibits 'the fire of Pollock' and 'the fixed gaze of Resnick'. If you like abstract art, you might be strangely attracted to Cholla's art. Cholla is stabled in Reno, Nevada, and if you'd like to check out his art, go to www.ArtistisaHorse.com.
