As a human behavior expert, Dr. Shelia Tao, a professor of psychology at Puget Sound State University, should have known better. You don't engage in affairs with your students, especially when they are sixteen years younger, but Shelia has succumbed to temptation and now she is paying for her mistake.

Shelia has decided to tell Ethan that their three month fling is over and that she has agreed to marry a kind and loving investment banker who adores her. 'I'm thirty-nine and I'm not getting any younger. I'm tired of living alone ... there still might be time for kids,' she tells her lover.

'Ah, well. It's better that it's over anyway,' he replies. 'It really should have ended ages ago, now that I think about it.' How civil, but does the graduate student really mean this? Of course not!

Ethan has plans for Shelia that involve blackmail and paying dearly for having rejected him. The game of countering her grad student's every threatening move to protect her career and forthcoming marriage wears heavily on Shelia. But then the murder of a female student makes the entire messy situation even more precarious.

With the stakes getting higher and higher, Shelia is caught in a terrifying game with the lover she once couldn't resist. Her former boy toy has transformed into an exceedingly obsessed and dangerous individual who has some sinister plans for his teacher.

This novel marks the debut of Jennifer Hillier. The former Canadian, who now lives in the Pacific Northwest with her husband, has launched what promises to be a very illustrious career.
