I am often accused of being a Pollyanna, always trying to look on the brighter side of life. After reading I Hate This Place, I may have to change my allegiance. About the authors - Jimmy Fallon is a Grammy Award-nominated comedian and a cast member of Saturday Night Live and his sister is an award-winning writer and fashion columnist; both sound like card-carrying pessimists.

I Hate This Place is a small book with single page statements of pessimism, each backed by a downer of a drawing. For example, one has the line sketch of a hanging man, along with the words 'I'm starting to think that I'm the butt of a joke that the whole world is in on.' Another shows a house on fire accompanied by the words 'Everyone keeps telling me to travel and see the world because that is where all the opportunities are. Like the opportunity that I'll get killed in a foreign country.' And there is 'Did you ever sit back and evaluate your life and think, "Boy, things are going just as I always wanted them to?" I didn't think so.'

This small book of pessimism continues in this vein. It's not going to change the optimist, but will give him or her a barrel of laughs. And the pessimist in your life would probably agree with everything that is said. It's a fun book either way you look at it, imaginative and just a little bit daring.
