n Atlanta, Sara meets Will Trent and his partner, Faith Mitchell, special agents with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Somehow, she becomes a part of their lives. Trent is a man with demons from his childhood. Although he and Sara are drawn to each other, Trent reluctantly pushes her away.

n this latest thriller, Slaughter takes us deep into a retired police captain's past to solve a brutal kidnapping that left behind two corpses. The retired police captain is Faith's mother.

aith has recently returned to work after the birth of her daughter, leaving baby Emma in the care of her mother, Evelyn. She's late returning from a required officer training class and can't reach her mother on her cell phone. Already worried, she steps into her mother's house and finds a horrific crime scene.

his is Slaughter's best thriller yet. Sara's romance with Will continues to lead them one step closer to each other and two steps away.
