Her first Kate Conway mystery, Missing Persons, only confirms that view. Kate Conway's personal life has gone completely topsy-turvy. Luckily, her professional life as a producer of true crime TV shows is starting to heat up with a new series called Missing Persons. The pilot involves a missing Chicagoan, a nursing student just out of college, who has not been seen for over a year. However, Kate has her own mystery to solve – her estranged husband, Frank, was poisoned. The police are looking at her, but she is looking at the other woman, Vera, who turns out to be nothing like what Kate imagined Frank's mistress would be. To take her mind off her personal problems, she delves deeply into her work and finds that no one is what they seem. What makes O'Donohue's writing so compulsively readable is how realistically she draws her main characters. Kate Conway is a new type of sleuth who is just trying to live her life but is drawn into her work deeper than she wants - something to which many thirty-something women readers can relate. Also, many cozies, while fun, seem a little farfetched, but the plot in Missing Persons is very plausible and the ending twists rather unexpected, adding another bright spot to this wonderful read. Missing Persons is a fun start to what promises to be an exciting new series from Clare O'Donohue. Add the Kate Conway series to the Someday Quilts series, and O'Donohue proves that she is the master of the chick lit cozy.
