T
oday is a good day. I obtained a copy of Vicki Delany's
Among the Departed
featuring Moonlight Smith. Molly, as she prefers to be known, is a police constable in Trafalgar, British Columbia.
F
ifteen years previously, Molly had spent the night with her teenage girlfriend Nicky Nowak for a sleepover. In the morning, pancakes were served for breakfast. Nicky's father was there as well as her mother and brother Kyle. Brian, the father, was never seen again from that day on. A search was organized but nothing came of it.
N
ow, fifteen years later, bones are found on the mountain and a new investigation develops. Nicky comes back to town exuding nefarious charms. Her brother and mother have become recluses and don't seem interested in finding what happened to Brian.
T
he mystery of the disappearance of this husband and father escalates as the investigation heats up. A smidgeon of romance graces the pages as Molly contemplates her life without her murdered fiancé on her arm. And can Lucky, her mother, find a new life with a new man?
A
mong the Departed
is the fifth in Delany's traditional village mystery series featuring the people whom I have adopted as friends - Constable Smith, Sergeant Winters, Lucky Smith as well as Trafalgar, B.C., a town in the shadow of the glacier. Delany has the knack of bringing this village to life. I would like to visit and meet the residents. But I must content myself with reading about it all.
H
urry, Vicki Delany, write quickly. I need another shot of Molly and her environs.
