S
ammy Greene is not having the best of luck in her career. She has just been fired from her job as a TV producer. She finds another position as host of an after-midnight show on a small radio station serving the Los Angeles area.
T
he time is the last days of December just before Y2K, 1999. The big news of the day – or night – is the Santa Ana Wind that is fanning fires all around the Los Angeles hills. Sammy is horrified to report that a burned body has been found and identified as the wayward daughter of a dear friend.
S
ammy can't leave things well enough alone and tries to trace the whereabouts of her friend's daughter's roommate, who might have some idea of what the woman was doing in the Hollywood Hills. It is obvious to Sammy that the fire death was no accident and that plans seem to be afoot that could cause the deaths of many innocent people. All basically in the name of greed and corruption. Murder seems to be just a matter of removing someone who might be in the way of an ultimate goal.
T
his is where this fast-moving plot takes off running. The dynamite conclusion rewards those readers who know a good book when they start it. Deborah Shilian and Linda Reid are co-authors of
Devil Wind
and both have a list of other books under their belts. This is the second under their partnership – the first being
Dead Air
.
