In the newest Joe Pickett novel, the always interesting Rocky Mountain high-country game warden is up against one of his biggest challenges. He must investigate the murder of a wealthy landowner who has been making enemies right and left among locals, especially by using his land for a huge installation of electricity-producing wind turbines.

The investigation is complicated by more than a few factors, not the least of which is Pickett's not-so-pleasant relationship with the defendant in the case: Missy Alden, a woman with a long track record of failed marriages. Of course, even more problematic is this fact: Missy Alden is Joe Pickett's mother-in-law.

So, while only reluctantly acquiescing to his wife's pleas for his help, Pickett is determined to vindicate his mother-in-law and expose the real murderer. This, however, is easier said than done. Local law enforcement authorities, the prosecuting attorney, Missy Alden's defense attorney, plenty of other people, and even the defendant herself seem constantly determined to hinder Pickett's inquiries.

More to the point, Pickett quickly realizes that his life is about to become extraordinarily complicated. However, if he would simply remember Occam's Razor, everything would become much more simple. (Hint: Entia non sunt multiplicanda praeter necessitatem!)
