Based on his song by the same title, TobyMac states, 'City is about a moment - a moment that we all come together and our differences fall by the wayside and love fills in the cracks and we turn our attention on what unites us ...' Our society is divided in many ways: race, religion, sex and socioeconomic status. Instead of looking for ways to keep our society segregated, TobyMac stresses the importance of working toward a common good. This book is filled with ordinary people doing extraordinary things. For instance ...

Alexandra Scott was diagnosed with cancer. At age four, she decided to open a lemonade stand to raise money for the fight against childhood cancer. The 1st year, $2000 was raised. After gaining national attention, $1.4 million dollars was raised by 2004. John Crowley had two children diagnosed with the fatal Pompe's Disease. He quit his job and devoted his life to finding a cure. His children are now teenagers. James King felt led by God to search for Nadia Bloom, a missing 5th grader with Asperger's whom he had never even met. The story of Michael Oher and the Tuohy family, as showcased in the movie The Blind Side is shared. There are teens raising money to fight human trafficking and others raising money to fund a Rwandan orphanage. The incredible stories go on and on.

Various Bible verses and prayers are interspersed throughout, as well as excerpts from TobyMac's personal blog. Helping others, specifically the poor, is frequently mentioned in the Bible and there are many people in history who gave their lives for these beliefs. Zig Ziglar sums it up nicely in the book by stating, 'You never know when one act, or one word of encouragement, can change a life forever.' TobyMac challenges the reader to step out in faith and perform that life-changing act.
