Subtitled 'The Combat History of the 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment in World War II', this volume contains twenty first person accounts of the unit that made a record four combat jumps in Sicily, Salerno, Normandy, and Holland.

Phil Nordyke draws on interviews, official archives and oral history recordings to piece together these stories and bring the regiment's history to life. From the Italian campaign to the fight to liberate France, these stories offer an eye witness account of the fighting from those who were in the thick of the fray.

'This is not just the story of the 505th Regimental Combat Team's great feats of arms on the battlefield,' writes Nordyke. 'It is the story of close combat, devotion to duty, remarkable courage, and tremendous sacrifice – told as only frontline combat infantrymen can.'

Sixteen pages of black and white photos plus numerous maps flesh out the story of this regiment. Released as a hardback in 2006, this softcover edition makes the book available to more readers at a lower price, but beware; the print is rather small, which may place a strain on older readers' eyes.
