Katie Up and Down the Hall is a tribute to a blonde cocker spaniel who loved, and was loved by, everyone who met her.

Although reluctant, author Glenn Plaskin was talked into looking for a companion to fill the long, lonely hours of a bachelor's life. Living in a high rise in the Battery Park City section of Manhattan, he had a third floor apartment that overlooked the Hudson.

Under guidance, he chose a cocker spaniel and never looked back. Katie loved the attention she deserved and gave back much more than she received.

She had a wardrobe to fit every occasion. Including matching hats. As a young puppy, she scampered down the hallway outside the apartment door and scratched on the last door. Pearl and Arthur lived there and had just lost their cocker. Katie was admitted with open arms.

And so began a lasting friendship with the elderly couple. John and his young son Ryan moved onto the same floor and became close friends immediately. Katie and Ryan would race to the end of the hallway. Katie won until Ryan grew longer legs and was finally able to beat her. A family feeling grew between these people – the others eventually called Pearl Granny.

This is a heartwarming book about an exceptional canine who was more than just a dog to this group of friends. It is also a memoir of a man who lived an interesting life.
