For anyone who loves cats, The Cat Who Came for Christmas by Cleveland Amory, is a must read. Even for those who are not enamored by cats, surely the reading of this book would correct the error of their ways.

This delightful offering is a teensy bit old, published in 1987. It was loaned to me by an old friend and cat lover.

Amory discovered an abandoned cat, dirty, injured and very frightened in a New York City alleyway. Known for his animal work, he could not ignore the feline's plight. He managed to capture the cat and take it home with him.

This is the back story. What ensues in this very interesting book is a compendium of information about cats - their origins; how to name them; what to name them; their attitudes, quirks, likes and dislikes; and, well, what makes them cats.

We are also treated to quotes from authors about cats. And on Amory's musings on his cat. Also his dialogue. He and his cat have numerous conversations that seem normal to me. We all know that dogs have masters and cats have staff. That too seems normal. It's an altogether entertaining book. A gem.
