att Hilton, author of last year's
Dead Men's Dust
, now brings readers another fast-paced, violent read starring tough guy action hero Joe Hunter in
Judgment and Wrath
. Hunter is ex-Special Forces as is his friend Jared '
Rink
' Rington - now they work together as PI's in Tampa, Florida.
T
his time, Joe comes up against serial killer for hire Dantalion, for whom collateral damage is always a highly satisfying job bonus. This mad '
child of the Mississippi Delta
' likes to play with his victims by giving them cruel choices. He keeps his kill book, '
the sum of his life's work
', close. Joe encounters Dantalion after he is hired by seventeen-year-old Marianne Dean's father to get her away from her abuser, wealthy Brad Jorgenson.
J
oe finds Marianne at Jorgenson's exclusive beach house in Miami, but Dantalion gets there first, just doing the job he's being well paid for. He kills Brad's father Valentin, but decides to toy with his remaining victims. When Joe and Rink snatch Mari and Brad from certain death, an enraged Dantalion adds them to his list of targets, and continues to cut a swathe of blood through the state.
D
etermined to protect Marianne, Joe and Rink investigate who might have employed Dantalion and find links to the Jorgenson family business and '
the chemical soup our troops are being fed
', as well as to Mari's father's motivation in hiring them. The tale's constant violence erupts in a grand finale in which (despite the intrusion of the FBI) Joe Hunter saves the damsel in distress and (naturally) gets his man.
