There are a number of shojo manga about romances between a human and a demon, but Mizuho Kusanagi's Mugen Spiral puts a cute twist on this theme. This is a fun fantasy romance that will leave readers smiling.

Yayoi is a mystic with tremendous powers. In fact, her powers are so extraordinary that demons keep appearing to try to steal them from her. It turns out that the Demon King is on his deathbed, and whichever demon has the most power will become the next king – and one sure way to gain enough power is to steal it from Yayoi. Yayoi manages to catch one of the more powerful demons, Ura, son of the Demon King, with the Cat God Rosary which turns him into a cat. The two strike a deal that Ura will protect Yayoi from the other demons as long as Ura gets Yayoi for his prey. Neither one, though, ever thought they would develop feelings for the other.

Mugen Spiral is a cute, fun read with plenty of shojo fantasy goodness. Kusanagi's style is exactly what you would expect in this type of manga and adds to the fun and romance. The only problem is that the plot falls apart a little towards the end as motives begin to change. But all in all, Mizuho Kusanagi's Mugen Spiral is an entertaining escapist read.
