A colour coded Reference Guide complete with illustrations starts you off and breaks down the birds into various categories: Birds of Prey, Rales, Coots and Cranes, Shorebirds and Wood Warblers, to name just a few. Next, there's an informative introduction that explains the authors' rationale in putting together Birds of Canada and where they discuss the various Terrestrial Ecozones of Canada as well as Conservation and Protected Spaces. They go on to list Where to Bird In Canada, breaking down the locations province by province, and then wind down this short section by outlining the finer Techniques of Birding. Now you'll proceed to the most important subject matter in Birds of Canada. In the 400 plus pages remaining you'll learn about every bird that lives or passes through Canada on their migratory routes. Each bird is described in detail with not only a beautifully rendered colour illustration but a small colour photograph as well. Additionally, a colour-coded map will show you the bird's habitat and migratory range. A short overview outlines size, nesting and feeding habits, the bird's voice or vocal characteristics, and similar species you might confuse with the bird being discussed. From the Greater White-Fronted Snow Goose to the Lesser Scaup, to the Northern Fulmar, American Coot, Sanderling, Dovekie, Loggerhead Shrike, Boreal Chicadee, Sage Thrasher, Prothonotary Warbler, or the common House Sparrow, Birds of Canada has all the information you will ever need to help you identify the hundreds of bird species native to Canada.
