Art historian Stratford Campbell is thrilled when her publisher finally accepts her idea for a fictography that details the scandalous lives of various seventeenth century artists. What her editor can never know about is how Cam has obtained her startlingly realistic research; she's discovered a time portal that whisks her off to the seventeenth century any time she wants.

Her accidental discovery has sent shock waves through the Great Beyond, and Peter Lely, the once renowned portraitist to kings, is commissioned by the Executive Guild to deal with Ms. Campbell. Lely is not at all happy about his latest assignment. All he wants to do is move on to his next life so that that he can finally forget the shattering memories of his lost wife and son. But Time-Jump accountant Mertons insists that Peter is the only man for the job. After exacting a promise that this would be his last assignment, Peter agrees - and finds himself caught up in a whirlwind adventure that not only spans his former time period but also the future - where his presence, and his incendiary affair with Campbell, could very well upset the entire fabric of time.

Despite an occasionally busy plot, Flirting With Forever is a compelling, well-written, and nicely paced story with wonderful insights into Renaissance art and actual masters like Peter Lely. Cready has also envisioned a unique, richly detailed mythology that, unlike many other books in the time travel sub-genre, does not rely on a few throwaway lines to explain how characters are able to move through time. Quirky, smart and sexy, and with two compelling leads in Cam and Peter, this is one time travel romance you'll want to set aside time to read.
