Imagine having to live with synaesthesia, a neurological condition that causes sounds to turn to different tastes in the mouth. Some so foul, it's hard to keep meals down. To top that, the sufferer is a Detective Chief Inspector, subject to many sounds on the job he would rather not taste.

Since Mark Lapslie is unable to even stand the noises his own children make, his family has moved out of the house to allow him to live in as quiet an environment as possible. Sergeant Emma Bradbury visits to summon him back to active duty when a ghastly murder occurs. Not too long afterwards, another victim is found. Even though the deaths appear unrelated, Lapslie feels there is a connection. And what a connection.

That is all of the plot you get from me. This is a psychological thriller that will make you double-check your locks at night and sleep with your lights on. Author Nigel McCrery is an old hand at writing, having several series under his belt. The suspense mounts as pages turn. The affliction of the protagonist simply adds depth to the plot.

Suspense leaps from every page and the tension builds. Allowed into the killer's mind, readers become aware of his intentions and quiver at the thought of what he plans. What crazy rationales some minds conjure for their actions. Tooth and Claw is a very good book, well written, and with characters that you hope you will never meet.
