ho doesn't long to lead a more peaceful life? Many people strive for the seemingly elusive peace that the Amish display. Suzanne Woods Fisher hopes to show the reader how to achieve peace in her latest book. The average American leads a life filled with constant activity and to-do lists, which is in stark contrast to the relaxed pace of the Amish.
T
hrough information obtained from interviews with the Amish, the author uses real-life stories to illustrate five key elements in Amish life: simplicity, time, community, forgiveness and faith ... all components of peace. The Amish emphasize character development, honoring God, avoiding temptation and living a plain life.
T
he stories are short and to the point, which makes it easy to fit them in to a hectic day. Appropriate Bible verses and Amish proverbs accompany each story. They are followed by personal reflection questions, exploring topics such as: how we define success, modern technology, childhood and family rituals, death/acceptance and what we learn from the handicapped and elderly.
S
uzanne Woods Fisher demonstrates that it is possible to choose to live a simple life. This world alone can not bring lasting peace, but loving your family and the Lord can.
