Mace Perry was a D.C. cop with an excellent arrest record until she was kidnapped while working undercover, drugged, and forced to participate in armed robberies. As David Baldacci's latest Washington conspiracy thriller, True Blue, opens on the execution of a Washington attorney by agents reporting to 'America's top spy', Mace has just survived a two year jail term and is out on probation. Her older sister Beth, who is the D.C. chief of police, shares her home with Mace and supports her in every way.

The day of Mace's release, Beth is called to a murder scene and her sister tags along. Young attorney Roy Kingman found the body of a colleague stuffed in a fridge at their multinational law firm. With Roy's help, Mace begins her own investigation, hoping that closing the case will create a path back to becoming true blue once more. The Captain, a homeless vet and war hero, is arrested for the killing. Lurking in the background is interim U.S. attorney Mona Danforth, an amoral prosecutor who has it in for both sisters, and seeks any excuse to put Mace behind bars once more.

When another corpse is found, Beth is surprised to have the case taken out of her jurisdiction for reasons of national security. While Roy takes on the Captain's defense and he and Mace continue to dig, powerful black ops forces do their best to take them down as the plot twists and turns through the capital's dark streets. Though Mace cracks the case she doesn't win the reinstatement she deserves ... this time. Don't miss True Blue, which is one of Baldacci's best, and let's hope he writes more adventures for this new, kick-ass heroine.
