Determined to find out what happened to her Uncle Alf and locate his missing donkey, eight-year-old Minnie Maude Mudway embarks on her own investigation of the crime. Assisted by Gracie Phipps, the search for Charlie (the donkey) is on. The two girls soon learn that the dead man's missing cart also carried a very special golden box. Entering an adult world they may not be entirely able to cope with, the two children discover that the mysterious container may turn out to be a Pandora's box. Anne Perry's six previous holiday novels have been quite memorable and A Cristmas Promise is as intriguing as its predecessors.
