So I will not compare author Peter Leonard's writing with his father's. Even if his father is Elmore Leonard. Peter has made a splash in the mystery writing genre all of his own. Trust Me is his second book, Quiver being the first. Both have earned acclaim. Two thieves, bumbling at best, break into a house only to find Karen there before them. Karen recruits them to steal what she considers to be her own – money she gave her then boyfriend to invest for her. $300,000 is a lot of money and she knows she needs help in getting it back. Samir, the ex, is a bookie who lives high on the hog and is not about to let that much money slip through his fingers. Samir is guarded by heavies, one of whom is ex-cop O'Clair who thinks that Karen's money would be a nice amount on which to base his retirement. Karen's plan goes awry. Considering the idiots she's working with, she's lucky to walk away with her life. But! She does get the money plus more. Karen heads out of town with the various members of her entourage after her as well as assorted other scum. Enough plot. Read for yourself and enjoy the speedy action, the unbelievably wonderful characters the author has amassed, and the dip into the criminal world as well as the criminal mind. Twists jump out from behind many pages which just add to the delight of Trust Me. It's fast-paced to keep the reader on edge, and with a great ending. Fun. Fun. Fun.
