Social worker Claire Conover has always worked hard at making the appropriate decisions for her clients, yet she has always worried about making a mistake. Her fears are finally realized when she receives a call informing her that a client, two-year-old Michael Hennessey, was killed and that his mother, Ashley, is a prime suspect.

Claire is shocked by the allegation, as she knows how hard Ashley worked to get clean of drugs in order to regain custody of Michael. Claire is even more shocked to learn that Michael died of a drug overdose.

Convinced that Ashley is taking the rap for someone else, Claire decides to play amateur detective and find the real culprit. Her problem is that the cops believe it was Ashley, and Claire's list of potential suspects continues to grow. Due in part to newspaper articles on the case, Claire comes under fire. Her life, as well as her job, is threatened. As secrets are uncovered, will they help Claire probe Ashley,s innocence ... or guilt?

Debut author Fenton provides an insider's look into the challenging field of social work. The storyline is detailed and at a pace to keep the reader involved.
