adeline Maclin lives in Celosia, North Carolina, not far from the bigger city of Parkland (both fictional). It is easy to get caught up in Maddy's life. She is a serious painter just about to reach big time when she shows in the town's gallery in their New Artists' show. To make ends meet, she has opened a detective agency – not expecting much beyond locating lost dogs or catching a shoplifter red-handed.
hings start to rev up when Nathan Fenton appears in her office to ask her to solve a riddle. According to his Uncle Elijah's will, if the riddle is solved, he will inherit a whole lot of money. While Maddy is riddle solving, a teacher at the local school suddenly turns up her heels and Maddy isn't too sure the death is natural.
s if that weren't enough, Maddy is married to a con man. Or, hopefully, an ex-con man. His past starts to catch up with him. Maddy stands behind him. What can she do? She loves him.
is the third in this delightful series filled with characters you would love to know in real life - Tori the agoraphobic, Jerry the con man husband, the stage mother with two very plain daughters, the gentle man obsessed with opening a summer camp, and of course Maddy herself. She has her head on straight but isn't beyond being out of step at times. This is a fun book. Great beach reading.
