After an opening section on the roots of Southern Pacific, Santa Fe, Union Pacific, Western Pacific and Pacific Electric, the reader will find sections devoted to today's freight and passenger operations and then a closing discussion of excursion trains and railway museums. A beautifully designed and expertly written volume that celebrates California's railroading heritage, this is the kind of book you'll return to over and over again because it is filled with so much useful information. Considering the nearly 190 color and black and white pictures plus the four specially commissioned maps, the book also has a visual appeal that train fans will really appreciate!
