Burn Factor is another thriller by bestselling author Kyle Mills. Once again the book involves the FBI but this time with a new and very appealing heroine named Quinn Barry. Quinn is a low-level computer programmer at the FBI, with ambitions to become an agent. Given the task of streamlining a program to identify DNA profiles of criminals, she discovers a suspicious discrepancy between her improved program and the original version. Instead of being pleased at Quinn's discovery, her supervisor blames her for the program's failure and shunts her aside to a different and unimportant job.

Concerned that this will harm her future opportunities and prevent her becoming an agent, the very clever and resourceful Quinn investigates further. Her life is turned upside down. As she struggles to save her career and then herself, Barry encounters both Eric Twain and Edward Marin. Twain is a young physics genius whose girlfriend was brutally murdered. He is an outcast due to lingering, but unproven, suspicions that he was the killer. Eric joins Quinn as another very appealing protagonist. Marin, on the other hand, is a world-class psychopath who makes Hannibal Lecter look like a Boy Scout.

In Burn Factor, Kyle Mills has written a creative novel featuring the development of a secret defense system, whose developers are willing to go to any lengths to ensure the completion of their project. The characters are all memorable and drawn with great skill by the author. Though there is much graphic violence making the story unsuited for those with weak stomachs, the battle joined between Quinn / Eric and their opponents is very suspenseful and the reader will enjoy the thrilling ride.
