Travis Thrasher's Ghostwriter is a chilling yet uplifting read. While it speaks of the weight of carrying a burden by yourself, it also talks of hope and the power of friends and family.

Bestselling author Dennis Shore has been going through a period of writer's block following the illness and death of his wife Lucy. Struggling to meet a deadline as his wife's life slowly ebbed, he did the unthinkable – he turned in someone else's work. Now that the book is published, he finds himself the target of the real author who is determined to make Dennis pay for what he did. Dennis starts to fear for his life – and the life of his daughter.

There are parts of Ghostwriter that are truly terrifying as Thrasher mixes ghost story with slasher gore. The plot moves at a steady pace, picking up at the parts where the terror does. Unfortunately, a few parts get waylaid by unnecessary repetition and too much of Dennis's dwelling on his wife. While Dennis's feelings for Lucy are integral to the plot and actually do not slow down the pace of the story, they sometimes go on a little too long, lessening the horror-story suspense.

Ghostwriter is a good mix of Christian literature and horror, making it a good beginning horror novel for those who want to be scared but not completely. Travis Thrasher's writing shows a solid feel for both genres.
