Thalia (Tally) Langley and her cousin Pippin visit Tally's sister Felicity. Felicity, who is married to a Duke, has notions of marrying Tally and Pippen off well. Tally has other ideas - she does not want to wed a boring man. When she arrives at her sister's house, her luggage is missing and the Duke's cousin, Mr. Ryder, shows up for a visit. Tally feels he is not who he says he is, and is determined to find out why he is there.

Lord Larkin is undercover (as Mr. Ryder) at Felicity's house. He intends to find and kill Dash (who has had a relationship with Pippen). Larkin knows that Pippin and Tally helped Dash escape from jail and he was even friends with Dash at one point, but he must follow orders so that his family's good name will be restored. Tally watches his every move and distracts him when she comes to dinner in a sexy black dress (taken from the luggage that was mistakenly brought to the house instead of her own). Larkin can't help having feelings for the beautiful vixen.

Tally and Larkin do not trust each other but can't seem to stay apart. Tally can't keep her mind off him, but she has to stay sharp in order to keep Dash hidden from whoever is trying to capture him. Larkin is drawn to Tally but knows she is keeping him from finding Dash. He also discovers things in his past that are not what he has believed.

Elizabeth Boyle creates another engaging story in Confessions of a Little Black Gown. The series started with Letters from a Duke and continues with Memoirs of a Scandalous Red Dress (Pippen's story). The characters reel readers into their adventures right away. A great historical packed full of romance, humor and action, this will keep readers entertained for a pleasant afternoon.
