Orange Crows is a fun and funky fantasy. James Perry II and Ryo Kawakami have created a world in their Original English Language manga that is unique and elaborate, and will definitely appeal to Western fans.

After a bad experiment dealing with new magic, student witch Cierra is banished, becoming a Forsaken. She must live five years in exile, never knowing if her best friend Natalie (the Mayor's daughter) survived the accident. When her five years are up, a group known as the Orange Crows come to take her in for judgement, led by none other than Natalie herself. Cierra is allowed back into society, but she has a secret that may keep her a Forsaken forever.

Unlike so many fantasy stories out there today, Orange Crows is about a group of witches and warlocks out of school. This makes it unique but also accessible to newer, younger fantasy fans. The darkness of the politics and social mores in Orange Crows makes it appealing to older fans of urban fantasy. These two aspects should give almost any fantasy fan something to love.

Ryo Kawakami's illustrations nicely complement James Perry II's darker story and truly bring out the characterizations. Orange Crows should be on the must-read list for any fantasy OEL manga fans.
