Over the course of seven hundred years, Robin of Locksley has eluded the authorities who'd hunted him in England as well as law enforcement officials worldwide. The Prince of Thieves' luxurious high-rise Atlanta penthouse is indeed a testament to his skill and cunning, filled with dozens of priceless treasures he's added to his collection over the course of centuries.

Federal agent Chris Renshaw is determined to nab the elusive art thief her law enforcement counterparts have dubbed The Magician. To that end, she's gone undercover at an Atlanta art museum where the priceless Maiden's Book of Hours is on display under heavy guard, in the hope that it will be the bait that finally captures The Magician. But when others with unbelievable powers sweep in and nab the book before Chris's trap is sprung, she must join forces with the very criminal she's been hunting. Locksley is a man she finds troublesomely annoying and appealing at the same time - and he harbours his own very personal reasons for retrieving the priceless and incredibly dangerous book.

While the motivations and the romance between Robin and Chris are somewhat weak, Viehl has created interesting twists in the Robin Hood/Maid Marion/Sheriff of Nottingham myth. She further compensates by beefing up intriguing plot threads that she's seeded throughout her Darkyn series. She also drops major revelations regarding Dr. Alexandra Keller's (If Angels Burn) five-year quest to find a cure for the Darkyn's curse of immortality. These threads and revelations ultimately set the stage as Viehl takes her mythology into a new direction. Shadowlight, the first book in her spin off series focussing on the Kyndred - warriors genetically engineered by the Brethren, (the Darkyn's arch nemeses) - hits the shelves in November.
