Bell and her husband are co-pastors of the Living Way Christian Fellowship Church in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In her book, she shares personal experiences and insights designed to help couples through their first five years of marriage. She acknowledges that the first five years are a difficult, but important, time in a couple's relationship.

Bell recounts how she met her husband Chris. As they truly are opposites, she believes God put them together for a purpose. Their strengths and weaknesses balance each other out, as they do in many marriages. Relevant scripture is quoted throughout the book. Bell points out that Jesus must be a part of the marriage.

Even if God puts two people together, Bell states that a marriage is still work. There will be conflict, but it is important to separate real issues from non-issues. An individual's past shapes the expectations that they bring into a marriage. This can include the way love was, or was not, expressed, whether they were given a sense of worth and whether they felt accepted into their family. God can heal anyone's history and leave them free to live their future. The only people one needs to please in a marriage are God and one's spouse.

Bell sums it up nicely by reminding the reader of God's definition of love, found in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8: 'Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. Love does not demand its own way. Love is not irritable, and it keeps no record of when it has been wronged. It is never glad about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful and endures through every circumstance.' (New Living Translation)
